Oh, if there is any advice I can give you, it would be this:
It looks like you already made a decision :D, the only thing that you're waiting for, is to be sure about your friends and family approval. If that is worrying you, you could ask them what they think about a new heairstyle, and tell them about your idea, I'm sure they'll give you their opinion and you'll feel more calm about their impression :), just ask them if they'll support you, and things can go good.
Or, if you want to make it a surprise, really, don't worry, the good thing about hair, is that it doesn't matter if you get a bad, or it doesn't turn out as you wanted, it'll grow up again in a few time, and maybe it will turn just like you wanted, and you'll love it :D
With family is a bit harder, since they sometimes try to impose things, but try explaining them why you would like a new haircut, just as you wrote, it's part of you and getting to know yourself and your image, I'm sure they'll understand :D

First of all: I think you should cut it shorter, but be sure you want to do it.
When I cut my hair short, I missed it at first... then I got used to it. Now it's almost the same length as before I cut it (2,5 years ago).
If you cut your hair really short (like 1-4 cm), you will probably miss your old hair at first, and the transformation may come as a shock to you, as well ;)
But I think I understand your thinking: you feel a little bad for not... realizing your potential to come closer to who you are on the inside by cutting your hair shorter, but you're scared how those close to you will react. It's a tough situation to be in. I think you should cut it. True, the hair you have is a part of your image, but the content of your heart is more important! The people close to you will handle the change, because they know behind the new, short hair is an awesome person!
And if you don't like it, don't cut it again for a while, and if you do like it... keep it short :)

don't worry i have thought months about this decision and i really want to try it again and if i don't like it i will find a way to deal with it ;) and yah i probebly will miss my old hair but that is always the case or it will be the thing that i love the new hear :p
i am happy you understand what i mean it really is trying to get closer to myself and i am glad you have that opinion and want to share it with me. i think you are right and people around me will except it but with difficulty for some i think. (and thanks for the compliment ^_^)
